PRAKTIK CHARGER 8 is an electronic battery charger for charging 6 and 12 volt lead-acid batteries:

  • WET (flooded lead-acid batteries)

  • GEL (gel batteries)

  • MF (maintenance-free)

  • AGM (with glass mat)

  • EFB (for vehicles with Start-Stop system)

The charger is equipped with a microprocessor control system, which ensures automatic switch-off when the battery reaches the required voltage, and automatic restart of charging when the battery voltage drops.

Each time the charger is switched on, it automatically sets the last saved parameters (useful for repeated use and in the event of power interruptions).

Cold battery charging function: optimises charging at very low temperatures (low temperatures can adversely affect the chemical structure of the battery).

Charging process

The 9-stage charging process ensures optimal conditions for charging the battery. The automatic control system adjusts each of the 9 charging stages to charge the battery correctly:

STAGE 1 - DIAGNOSTIC – analyses the battery and checks whether it is able to accept the charging current; prevents charging of a damaged battery.

STAGE 2 - RECOVERY CHARGE (Pre-charge) – low-voltage batteries are pre-charged with a small current but at an increased voltage; deeply discharged batteries may be restored to a usable condition and this ensures a longer battery life; the stage is skipped if the battery is only minimally discharged and in good condition.

STAGE 3 - SOFT START – the charger gradually increases the charging current until the set charging current is reached.

STAGE 4 - PULSE CHARGE – the battery is charged with a pulsed current (pulse fluctuations occur within the direct current range).

STAGE 5 - RECONDITIONING – preparatory stage for bulk charge.

STAGE 6 - BULK CHARGE – charging at constant current up to a preset voltage (14.4÷14.7V).

STAGE 7 - ABSORPTION CHARGE – once the required battery charge level has been reached, the charger switches to constant voltage (CV) charging and the charging process ends.

STAGE 8 - EVALUATION DIAGNOSTIC – automatic monitoring of the battery voltage after charging has finished.

STAGE 9 - MAINTENANCE CHARGE – battery maintenance charging stage (float) and monitoring of its condition; if necessary, charging continues at reduced current.
